The Coliseum in Springfield Illinois
Here are some shots of the exterior and the interior of the Coliseum where the NADAC Champs was held last week. It is a beautiful building, the the running surface was fabulous for both dogs and handlers alike, It looks like dirt but was actually a 80/20 mixture of sand and coarse sawdust.
Stewie loved it in there and responded the the energy and applause like the champion he is!

NAE Dummerston July 8-10
Northeast Agility Enthusiasts had their Dummerston Vt trial at Hidden Acres Campground July 8-10.
Friday night was NADAC Extreme Games Challenge, which we tried for the 1st time!
We did 2 runs each in Extreme Chances, Extreme Tunnelers, and Extreme Hoopers. It was very fun, and we got points in both Chances and both Tunnelers. The Hoop Circle defeated us on our first two attempts, but we will try again the next time Extreme Games comes to the Northeast.
Saturday was our big hope to get the Hoopers Q we need for Champs, and although the run started out well, we got a fault and so did not qualify.
We again trained our start line stay in the other classes, taking eliminations in Regular and Touch and Go.
Chances was a great course and we had a great run! It really flowed and we had connection and it was a beautiful thing. The challenge was an out to the tunnel next to the dog walk, a call in over two jumps, and a turn out to a jump, then the dog walk at a distance and several hoops out!
Sunday we had several good runs. Touch and Go was a great run until I sent Stewie off course to the A-frame, which he performed beautifully!
Chances Sunday had a series of jumps heading to an off course tunnel, instead the dog had to pull in towards you. I was very pleased that Stewie did not take the off course! Then he missed a jump though and ran by the 6 weaves poles that were near the finish. But the run still had good elements to it.
We finished the day with a smoking tunnelers run that was really fast and run. What a good boy to still run at the end of a hot 3 day trial.

Trial Volunteering
It is Blog Action Day to discuss volunteering at trials!
I compete almost entirely in NADAC, and most trials are pretty small so everyone really needs to step up and volunteer!
I try to plan my volunteering around times that would be good for my dog to get some crate rest. I usually ask to gate steward, ring crew or leash run. I usually work 2-3 classes per day and then just jump in whenever else they need help.
One thing that seems to really help the small trials is, at pick up time, ask everyone to go out to the field and pick up even one or two items and move them near the trialer to pack up. This really gets things packed up fast and doesn't leave the burden on only a few people.
My JRT is 8 years old now, and is pretty good at being quiet in his crate. When he was just beginning to trial it was hard for me to work, since he barked and got himself really worked up when I wasn't there.
Time and getting used to the trial atmosphere really helped there.
Another great thing volunteering is good for is while you are learning the jobs and watching the rings, you can learn lots of new things and it makes it easier to meet people also!

Chances course 12/31/2010
This is the Elite Chances course from New Year''s eve 2010 in Smithfield, RI.
We went off course after the # 6 jump. Stewie turned in to me and took the # 4 jump again, going in the wrong direction. It was too bad, I really think he would have gone on and done the hoops if we hadn't blown it there. Only a couple of dogs got it.

Stewie earns his Superior Elite Regular Title!
Stewie earned his S-EAC title on New Years Day 2011 with a 1st place Q! This was at Addicted to Agility's trial at N. Smithfield RI with judge Roger Coor. It was an awesome run with great weave poles with a time of 37.72. The 2nd regular run that day was the same course turned around, and Stewie had another blazing fast with with great poles, and beat his own time by 3 seconds with a time of 34.73!
You need to have 40 Elite Regular Q's to earn the Superior title. Great job Stewie!
According to my records, Stewie has gotten 7 Regular Q's since August 1, 2010 toward Championshops 2011!

Back to Blogging-trial coming up
I have been neglecting the blog lately. Our next trial is Northeast Agility Enthusiast's NADAC trial in Dummerston Vt. on July 10-11. It is a beautiful spot with lots of shades, and good places to walk. I am going early on Friday to take advantage of run thru's being offered by Lynn Smitley right at Hidden Valley camp ground. These should focus on distance training to help us get our last few Chances.

Sunday May 2nd Addicted to Agilty
Sunday started with my car not starting in the parking lot of the motel, so I got to the trial late, and only got to walk Jumpers about 3 times. It seemed like a really easy, flowing, fast course. So of course we messed it up! Somehow Stewie ran around one jump and took another one, so no Q, otherwise it was a fun run.
Regular was a nice course and we did great, except Stewie did not want to weave, on the 2nd attempt he popped out, and we just went on. Good distance practice at least.
Next was Chances, and what a heartbreaker it was. Stewie got the distance, and the directionals, and the discrimination, and then ran by the 6 weave poles near the end. Whimper, whimper.
Touch and Go was fun, except we missed a hoop, so a NQ.
Tunnelers was a fun course, and we did manage to Q in it, the only Q of the day, with a 4th place.

Saturday May 1 Addicted to Agility
Stewie and I had a great trial in RI under judge Ron Young. The first run of the day was Regular, it had a fast start and Stewie was revved, and I lost him to an off course tunnel at the 4th obstacle. Of course after that, he went on to get great weaves and had a fast finish off the dog walk.
The next run was Chances, and I lost him to the same off course tunnel, and then did the rest of Chances great. No Elite dog Q'ed in Chances, and only one Open dog Q'ed. Tough course.
Next was Touch and Go, and it looked different than any other Touch and Go course I have seen. There was a lot of handling in the beginning on the right side of the ring, and then after that, there was 2 tunnels and a hoop curving to the dog walk. It was the fastest course I have ever seen. Stewie got his dog walk contact, good boy! and boy was he flying. His time was 6.83 yards per second which I think is his fastest speed ever! This was a Q and a 1st place!
Next was Tunnelers, and we tried the 15 point bonus line. We only had one bobble, and the rest of the distance and directionals were no problem. At the end the judge said good try, which I thought meant I hadn't Q'ed, but I checked the next day, and we had Q'ed with a 3rd place, we just did not get the bonus.
The last run of the day was Jumpers, and it was a different looking course too! There were 23 obstacles, and a 4 jump serpentine that you did each day. At the far end of the ring was a series of 4 jumps which you did twice, both times I layered them with the 4 jump serpentine. There was no problem or hesitation with layering the lines of jumps. This was a really great run, no bobbles, and it was a 1st and a Q.
The next run was Chances, and I lost him to the same off course tunnel, and then did the rest of Chances great. No Elite dog Q'ed in Chances, and only one Open dog Q'ed. Tough course.
